Flawless Regal teams on course for semis
REGAL Masters and Regal All Stars convincingly won both of their preliminary round matches on the opening day of Orlando Cup 2 last Friday in Florida, USA.
Playing at Geveve grounds, Regal Masters were in clinical mode when they dispatched both South Florida Softball Cricket League (SFSCL) and Tri State Masters on the opening day of the three-day tournament.
In the opening match against SFSCL, Regal won by 9 wickets with 10.2 overs to spare.
The victory was set up by man-of-the-match, Mahesh Chunilall and the consistent Mahendra Hardyal who showed their readiness for the annual championship.
SFSCL were invited to bat and got to 82 before they were bowled out in the 19th over. Hardyal snared 3 for 16 (4 overs) and was supported by Throy Kippins with 3 for 25 while Kayume Mohammed made 21.
Chunilall then got 51 not out (6×6, 3×4) as Regal raced to their target in sunny conditions. Hardyal hit 19 (3×6) in an opening stand of 70 before he was dismissed.
Mohammed picked up the lone wicket for 18 runs from 2 overs.
In the second match, Regal were up against Tri State Masters who also showed no competition.
They resisted for 20 overs before they folded off the last ball of their innings for a paltry 87.
Ramkumar Seenarine top-scored with 20 while Amir Ahmad made 16.
Hardyal was once again in ripping form with 3 for 38 while Fazleem Mohamed took 2 for 10 and Throy Kippins had 2 for 17.
In the run chase, Chunilall finished on 44 not out (6×6; 3×4) and was once again supported by Hardyal with 36 (4×6; 3×4) as they got home by 9 wickets with a mammoth 13.4 overs in hand.
Regal were scheduled to meet New York Blitz yesterday morning in their final preliminary round match before playing their semi-final from 13:30hrs
Regal All Stars will meet World Boss in their final preliminary round match before playing their semi-final from 13:30hrs as well, after disposing of Speed Boat and New York Assassins.
And in the Over-45 category, Floodlights won their two matches and are on course for the semi-finals.
The finals are set for today at Hogshead grounds.
