Potaro River man gets 25 years for killing miner

TWENTY-nine-year old Levei Thomas of Maicobie Village, Potaro River was on Tuesday sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for manslaughter.

The decision was handed down by Justice Sandra Kurtzious at the Suddie High Court. Thomas pleaded guilty to the offence. Thomas was charged together with Georgy France for the murder of Sheldon Rodigues at Falls Top, Arimu, Cuyuni River on November,2, 2015.
It was alleged that Thomas of Mahdia and Gregory France of Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast, murdered Sheldon Rodrigues. During the initial stage of the investigation, police had reported that the two men confessed to the murder of 36-year-old Rodrigues, a gold miner. Rodrigues and the men were involved in a drinking spree, when an argument ensued and he was stabbed to death.
