A 53-year-old ex-policeman on Friday appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, charged with uttering fake currency and obtaining money by false pretence.
James McKenzie of Public Road, Kitty, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on March 6 at Sheriff Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he uttered to Karim Khan $1,200 in US currency, knowing same to be counterfeit.
He was also charged with uttering the fake currency to Khan to obtain a radiator valued $30,000 by falsely pretending that the money was genuine.
The taxi driver pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Daly, with no objection raised by police prosecutor Sanj Singh, released McKenzie on a total of $120,000 bail and adjourned the matter until April 3.
