THE nursery and primary schools of the riverine community of Gordon Table located along the left bank of the Mahaicony River, Region Five, will benefit from additional upgrading work this year.

The Region Five administration last year spent $2.6M on a facelift to the school and this year will spend another $3.1M for further enhancement works for the comfort of pupils and staff.

Superintendent of Works, Delton Benjamin, said the Region Five administration will replace the roof of the school, repaint the building, upgrade the sanitary facilities and provide improved security features for the buildings occupied by the headteacher and deputy headteacher, among other remedial works.

He said the sanitary facilities in particular will be given special attention, since some deterioration had occurred in them.
“The Parent/Teacher Association had raised concerns about these facilities and the intention is to address these concerns once the contract has been awarded,” he said.

The disclosure of the works for the Mahaicony River school follows a visit by the Regional Executive Officer Ovid Morrison and a team February last to get a first-hand look at the repairs and upgrades needed for the school.

Under the work programme of the regional administration for 2018, the school is one of several in Region Five targeted for upgrades and refurbishments this year.
