Man found dead in city hotel

POLICE were called in to a city hotel on Wednesday afternoon after a guest was found motionless in his room.

Up to press time, the name of the man was unknown, but according to persons who work at the hotel, the individual is said to be an elderly man. The Guyana Chronicle was told that the man had checked into the hotel on Tuesday, requesting to stay for one day.

It was after his time had expired and he made no effort to return the keys to the room that the hotel staff became concerned. They then went to his room and called but got no answer. It was at that point that management decided to access the room using a spare key.

When the employees entered the room, they discovered that the man was dead and that a cup with a suspected poisonous substance was discovered in the room he was renting.

Police were called in and have commenced their investigation. There was no information given as to when last the man was seen alive or if he had any person(s) visiting him during his 24hours stay at the hotel. Police are said to be reviewing the security cameras at the hotel as they look for clues that can help them solve the matter.
