ISLAMABAD United have been dealt a major blow as Andre Russell has been ruled out of the remainder of PSL 2018 due to a hamstring injury.
The all-rounder pulled his right hamstring in the very first over of the clash against Karachi Kings last Sunday while fielding, when he tried to run across from long-off and stop the ball.
“Russell was injured during the game against Karachi Kings and MRI results were not encouraging. He will not take any further part in the tournament,” an Islamabad United official was quoted as saying by Geo.TV.
In his first competition since returning from a one-year ban for doping whereabouts violation, Russell has been an integral member of the United set-up. In this season, he has four wickets and 82 runs to his name, including a thrilling last-ball six against Lahore Qalandars in a one-over eliminator.
The extent of the injury could have a bearing on his availability for Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming edition of the IPL, scheduled to begin on April 7. (Cricbuzz)
