Cuyuni-Mazaruni health posts to be upgraded

HEALTH posts at Phillipai, Isseneru, Waramadong, Kako, Jawalla, and Imbaimadai, Region Seven, have been earmarked for upgrades as part of the ongoing move to upgrade health facilities countrywide.

Initially, Imbaimadai and Waramadong were to undergo initial expansion works in 2017. These two facilities have been re-included in the 2018 budget. They are being given more attention, since they cater to a wider mining community.
The soon-to-be health centres or ‘community hospitals,’ as they are referred to by regional officials, will be able to render care on an in-patient basis and monitor persons with reported serious illnesses. Also, other critical and much-needed services will be made available for those seeking care at the health centres.

For example, completion of the rehabilitation and extension of the Waramadong health facility is much anticipated, as dentistry will be added to the suite of services to be provided.

Residents of the communities will have a wider range of health issues being attended to which, in turn, will contribute to better patient care and fewer referrals to the district and regional hospitals in Region Seven.

Under the guidance of the Department of Regional Health Services (RHS) at the ministry, there is the need to build regional capacity through infrastructure and human resources.
Region Seven is one such region which is utilising its health budget to accomplish this vision. Region Seven has more than 20 health posts with two health centres, one district hospital and one regional hospital.

The health posts are strategically located in areas where they can serve residents from a number of villages and indigenous settlements.
