THE Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has launched an investigation into the alleged stripping and cavity searching of a teen at the Eugene F Correia International Airport, Ogle, East Coast Demerara, by the Force’s Narcotics Branch last Sunday.
In responding to an article in Stabroek News under the caption ‘Family seeking legal advice after cavity search of teen’, Press Officer Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan said a statement has been obtained from the female rank who denied conducting the cavity search on the teen, who was an outgoing passenger to Barbados.
“The Force wishes to acknowledge that the search of the 17-year-old at the Eugene F Correira International Airport last Sunday was conducted by a female rank of the Force’s Narcotics Branch and that an investigation has since been launched by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR),” he said.
According to a news report on Monday, the teen related that she was informed by the officer that she had to do a strip search and was directed to a room.
In that room, the teen claimed that she was asked to strip naked and the officer even inserted her finger into the teen’s private parts.
The young woman said she is seeking a public apology from the agency.
