AFTER a good 2017 season, medalling at a number of tournaments in Canada, Guyana’s top badminton player Narayan Ramdhani was endorsed yet again as a brand ambassador for the Yonex Corporation USA for 2018.
“Yonex USA was very much pleased with his performance in 2017-2018 with Narayan medalling at every event played on the Canadian circuit where he is based for the last year and a half,” a release from the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) noted.
According to the report, Ramdhani performed at four tournaments for the last year or so where he landed a number of medals. He most recently won the Open MS A Tier category at the VCR Jack Under-hill Open tournament last month, and finished third in the doubles category.
He had another gold at the Under-23 category of the 2017 VRC Remembrance Day Junior Open, a bronze at the BC Senior Circuit 2-Shuttlesport Open, and a bronze at the BC Under-23 Championships.
The sponsorship comes as Ramdhani is in the midst of his preparations for the Commonwealth Games in Australia from April 4 to 15.
The signing means that Ramdhani will be exclusively using Yonex racquets, bags, shoes, apparel and accessories. Yonex Co. Ltd manufactures golf, tennis, and badminton equipment.
Yonex has managed to become the dominant corporate player in badminton. Yonex sponsors the All England Open Badminton Championships and is a partner of the Badminton World Federation which organises the World Championships. Upwards of 80% of competitive players use their racquets, as it is the preferred choice among professionals.
