Fernandes eases through first match as Bounty Farm squash tourney starts

AS Taylor Fernandes prepares to take on the challenge of competing at the Commonwealth Games, she is getting some much-needed preparation in the Bounty Farm Ltd Handicap Squash Tournament, where she easily took out Jonathan DeGroot last Wednesday night when the tournament began.

Playing at the courts of the Georgetown Club, in a category-A match, Fernandes (-4) breezed past DeGroot (8) to claim the first game, dropping just three points as she amassed 19.

Jonathan fought back in the second game by taking the game 15-13.. Fernandes triumphed in the third despite a shaky moment after reaching 0 from a 4-point deficit. She then showed her superior skill, and held her nerve to win the third game and the match 15-11, 13-15, 15-14.

In another match of the night, Javid Rahaman made light work of Tian Edwards, while Brian Young closed the 3-point handicap gap on Andrea King to take both games, and the best of three matches.

Other category-A matchups for the night saw Shiloh Asregado win straight games against Ashanti Persuad, while Abosaide Cadogan did not drop a point as she easily took care of Kayden Pynaendy.
