THE fastest cars in a straight line will be known today when the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) stages its King of the Strip Drag Race meet.

Nine classes of action will thrill crowds today from the 15-second class all the way down to the nine-second and unlimited divisions as well as bikes.
When the event gets rolling today, there will be several battles within the war.

East Side vs West Side
The A&R Jiwanram trophy is up for grabs today in the East Side vs West Side battle, which is expected to be a sure firecracker.
The two sides have been trading blows with the West Side being led by former 13second champion Imran Khan.

He will have his work cut out when he comes up against Balram’s Auto Mechanic and Raj Auto, some of the East side competitors expected to be on show.
Still, when the dust settles, there will be one side holding the trophy and it will be the side with the most guys on the podium

GTR Goliath vs Nightmare Caldina
Probably the most sought after battle this weekend will be that of the GTR of Team Mohamed’s Enterprise, known as Goliath, and the Toyota Caldina Nightmare of Shawn Persaud.

Both cars are in the unlimited class and many have their favourites come race day.
The unmistakable growl of the 1000+ hp monster Goliath has the racing pedigree of several years of engineering and a best time of 7.5 seconds on the strip.
On the converse side, the Caldina of Persaud has recently undergone some upgrades that should put it in that four-digit region, according to sources, making the battle all the more fun.
The quickest shootout to date could be over before you blink and is sure to be a crowd-puller.

Starlet shootout
The pocket-rocket turbo-charged little Toyota Starlets have also got themselves a grudge match within the war today, as several of those cars are eager to be crowned ‘fastest starlet’.
The motor-trend team of Motilall Deodass has laid claim to the title with the BM Soat/Prem’s Electrical Starlet and the Ramchand Autobody car also expected to shake things up.

Mix in sprinklings of road-going cars and that’s sure to be a class to watch.
The sponsors are Tropical Shipping, STAG, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Rent-a-Tent, Perms Electrical, Paul Jiwanram, White Boy Auto Spares, BM Soat, Palm Court, Samaroo Investments, Windjammer, Nexus, E-Networks, JR Burgers, Toucan Industries, Trans Pacific, Ramchand’s Auto Body Shop, Special Auto, A and R Jiwanram Printery Inc., Infinity Imports and Japarts.
