Berbice, Demerara record wins as GCB/Dave West Indian Imports Under-15 tourney underway

THE 2018 GCB/Dave West Indian Imports Under-15 tournament commenced yesterday with wins for the Berbice and Demerara teams.

President X1 won the toss and opted to take first strike. They were dismissed for a paltry 68 in 20.5 overs. Tulesh Shivrattan with 17 and Alvin Mohabir 15 were their top run scorers..
The rest of the batting line up were sent back to the pavilion without adding much to the score.

Bowling for Berbice, Jonathon Persaud and Jeremy Sandia took 4 for 21 and 4 for 10 runs respectively. Isiah Thorne picked up 1 for 35 at the end of the innings,.
Berbice, in reply, took control and reached their target of 69; losing only two wickets in the process.

Over at the Lusignan ground, Essequibo batted first and struggled all the way through. They were bowled out for 45 runs in 19.2 overs of their allotted 50 overs.
Chandrapaul Ramraj was the most destructive bowler for Demerara, grabbing 4 for 6, while Taddius Lovell, Alex Ali and Romel Datterdeen took 2 wickets each for 19, 13 and 7 runs respectively.

In Reply, Demerara reached their target in just 6.2 overs; scoring 51 for 1 with Romel Datterdeen hitting a massive six to lead Demerara to victory; being not out on 7 while Captain Mavindra Dindyal top-scored with 14 not out. Demerara won by 9 wickets.
At the end of round one, Jeremy Sandia from Demerara and Chandrapaul Ramraj from Berbice were awarded the Man-of-the- match prizes.

In the second round of matches slated for tomorrow, Berbice will take on Demerara at the Everest ground and Essequibo will face the President’s X1 at Tuschen. Matches are scheduled to start from 09:00 hrs.
