Retired Justice Donald Trotman was sworn in earlier on Wednesday to spearhead a Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the Lindo Creek Massacre which sent shock waves across the country in June 2008.
Justice Trotman was sworn in by Chief Magistrate , Ann McLennan at the Ministry of the Presidency . He was presented with his instrument by Minister of State , Joseph Harmon.
The Commission will commence its work on February 1 , for a period of three months.
Minister Harmon explained that the Commission, equipped with adequate staff and resources, will investigate and make findings of fact on all matters in relation to the killing of the men . Those who died were Cecil Arokium, DaxAroquium, Horace Drakes, Bonny Harry, Lancelot Lee, Compton Speirs, Nigel Torres and Clifton Berry Wong on or about June 21, 2008.
Based on the outcome of the inquiry recommendations will be made on the actions to be taken against those responsible.
The COI is the first of a series of inquiries into the extra-judicial killings that occurred during 2002-2009.
President David Granger in recent days has said that it was important that there be closure.
