A 39-year-old Venezuelan was on Tuesday fined $30,000 for entering Guyana illegally.
Dnesimo Quiyada appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged for entering Guyana on January 13, at Eteringbang, Cuyuni River, without presenting himself to an immigration officer.
He pleaded guilty to the charge with the aid of an interpreter.
According to reports, Quiyada was arrested by police from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on January 25, at Port Kaituma during an ongoing murder investigation.
Should the Venezuelan fail to pay the fine he will have to spend eight weeks in jail, the court ordered.
