TWO unlicensed firearms were recently found in a hire car which was impounded at the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) bond since last December. The driver of the hire car has since been taken into custody.
The Guyana Police Force, in a press statement on Sunday, explained that on December 29 last the car was impounded at a GRA bond in Springlands, Corentyne, after it was found with a quantity of fireworks and other items on Line Path, Skeldon. GRA enforcement officers had made the discovery.
However, on Saturday, acting on information, a thorough search was conducted on the impounded vehicle in the presence of the driver at about 17:15hrs. During the search, two unlicensed firearms were found in the bonnet compartment – one, a .32 pistol and the other a single-barrel shotgun which was disssembled. The driver, who has since denied any knowledge of the illegal weapons, is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
