… GDF stop Grove Hi-Tech 2-0 to win GFF Year-End Classic

THE Guyana Defence Force (GDF) showed why they are the country’s top football team, having stopped Grove Hi-Tech’s fairy-tale in the inaugural Guyana Football Federation (GFF) ‘Year-End Classic’, winning 2-0 on New Year’s Day at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

GDF goalscorers (L-R), Delroy Fraser and Eusi Phillips

Setting up the $2M win for the ‘Army’, was Eusi Phillips, who scored from the penalty spot in the 58th minute, and Delroy Fraser who put the icing on the cake with his strike in the 80th minute.

Grove Hi-Tech, who had a great run to the final, including an upset win over Fruta Conquerors in the semi-finals, had to settle for $1M following their defeat to the Army.
In the third place game, Jermaine Junor starred with a double on the night, to lead Fruta Conquerors to a 3-1 win over Milerock FC in a Linden versus Georgetown encounter.

With $500 000 on the line, Junor rocked the net in the 23rd and 83rd minutes, while Ryan Hackett had given the Tucville-based team the perfect start with his goal in the third minute.

Kester Randolph scored the Linden team’s lone goal in the 85th minute.
