…officer-in-charge under close arrest
TWO prisoners of the Golden Grove Police Station who escaped on Tuesday remain on the run even as law enforcement authorities redouble their efforts to recapture the men.
The duo is Derrol James, 22, of 131 Middle Walk, Buxton and Ivre Hooper, 25, of James Street, Albouystown. James was arrested for a series of armed robberies, while Hooper was in custody for simple larceny.
A third prisoner, 25 year-old Wayne Gilbert of 30 West La Penitence had also escaped but he was handed over to police at the Brickdam Police Station at about 23:50hrs on Tuesday by his father. Gilbert has been accused of murdering Rawle Rodrigues on January 20, 2017 at Stabroek Square. He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

The trio on Tuesday afternoon escaped from the Golden Grove Police Station ‘lockup’ via an opening on the western wall.
According to police, a piece of metal believed to have been broken off from the cell door was used to break the wall. The metal was found nearby. Meanwhile, a subordinate officer who was in charge of the shift has since been placed under close arrest as an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape has begun.
