GCN to host awards ceremony on Sunday at Club Latino

THE Guyana Cycling News (GCN) will on Sunday host an awards ceremony at the Club Latino , Hadfield and John Streets, for local cyclists who have performed exceedingly well during the 2017 season.

According to information received, among the top performers for the 2017 season include Team Coco’s Jamaul John in the open category who won 10 National Park and Road Races during the season which began in February and notched up 217 points in the GCN’s points standing; Team Evolution’s Paul DeNobrega with 188 points and Team Alanis’ Alonzo Ambrose.
In the Junior category, Team United We Stand leads the way with Curtis Dey (Trojan) and Nigel Dugid (Team Evolution) following in that order.
In the veteran’s category, Junior Niles (Team Coco’s) the evergreen cyclists heads the list of awardees with Ian `Dumb Boy’ Jackson following in second, while Lear Nunes is next in line.

To date, a number of local businesses and individuals have made valuable contributions to the activity which, apart from the awards ceremony, will also have a party atmosphere as it will be going through the night.

Among the sponsors on board who have all pledged $20,000 each are: former national cyclist Robin Persaud and his wife Juliet of Regent Multiplex Mall Money Gram and LBI Money Gram; veteran cyclist Shameder Baksh, General Manager of Universal Auto and General Supplies situated at Hope Front, Enmore, East Coast Demerara; Damian Persaud of LBI Super Bet shop; and Kurt Bumbury of Kurt and Carol Grocery, Plaisance Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.
The organisers of the activity are appealing to the business community and private individuals to step on board and support this activity which is in its third year.
