FORMER Essequibo senior inter-county captain Dinesh Joseph has been hospitalised having sustained injuries to his leg.
The elegant right-handed batsman, one of only five inter-county centurions, has been suffering from the injury for a prolonged period which led to one of his leg becoming infected.
He was initially hospitalised at the Suddie Public Hospital last Tuesday, but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital after it was disclosed that he may need surgery.
Joseph is arguably Essequibo’s finest batsman of any generation. Recently in an interview with Chronicle Sport, he had expressed the desire to become a mentor and share his experience with promising cricketers in the county as well as in schools.
During his career, he scored over thirty club centuries including a double at the inter-committee level against North Essequibo – a feat that remains unchallenged.
He also featured regularly at senior national trials and many felt that he should have been selected in the national team after consistently scoring heavily at the inter-county level as an opening batsman.
