THREE Guyanese players have been named as members of the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) Indoor Elite Team, following the conclusion of the tournament here last month.

Captain Robert France and goalkeeper Medroy Scotland were the two named in the male squad while midfielder Marzana Fiedtkou was the female selected.

According to president of the Guyana Hockey Board, Philip Fernandes, this is a positive indicator as to the obvious growth of the sport locally.
“The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) is very pleased to have three of its players selected to the Pan American All Star Team. It is a very prestigious award and is only the second time in our history that we have had a Guyanese selected.

“We have Marzana Fiedtkou of the women who have played some hockey at University (in the United States) but she has learnt most of her hockey here in Guyana.”
“Both France and Scotland have played hockey here and we are very pleased that we can produce players of this calibre and we are happy that they have been recognised by the Pan Am Federation for their achievement.

According to a release on the PAHF Website, this is the first time that separate Indoor teams have been named with the aim of giving “deserved exposure to the top indoor players and the game itself’.
