— at massive Dharmic Sabha Diwali Motorcade

As thousands of Guyanese came out to witness the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s (GHDS) grand motorcade held on Wednesday, the Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organisation and the De Willem Hindu Temple were adjudged the best floats.

The youth organisation which hailed from East Berbice, won the first place prize in the large category and the best overall creative design, while the De Willem Hindu temple scored in the small category.

The De Willem’s float uniquely featured a depiction of Lord Vishnu atop his humanoid vehicle Garuda protruding from the front of the truck. The East Berbice float was sponsored by Digicel and presented skillfully crafted and colourful float.
Copping second and third, respectively, in the small category was the Bath Settlement Hindu Temple Camille’s institute. The Golden Fleece and Better Hope mandirs copped the second and third places, respectively, in the large category.

There were 24 participating motorcades in the large and small categories of the grand procession which made its way from the Shri Krishna Mandir, Campbellville to the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Community Centre Ground where patrons then enjoyed a packed cultural show.
This show featured the talented young dancers from the Dharmic Nritya Sangh, alongside top Guyanese singers.

Ben Parag of the singing competition Dil Hai Hindustani was the feature performer and he wowed the crowd with his contemporary and classical Indian musical renditions.
President of the GHDS, Dr. Vindhya Persaud expressed Diwali greetings to all Guyanese, despite whichever day they were observing the festival.
She ascertained that the holiday, as seen through the support for the motorcade, serves as an agent of fostering unity and social cohesion.
