– In the interest of the players and the game

FORMER president of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), Roy Baijnauth has weighed into the ongoing dispute between the elected members of the BCB and the majority of the cricket stakeholders in that County, urging the two sides to put their differences aside and stand together to work for the welfare of the players and for the development of the game in the Ancient County.

Baijnauth also called on the cricket stakeholders to allow the board to function so that the administration of the game can return to some form of sanity.
“The bottom line is that you can’t suit everyone, but everyone involved in this cricket problem should put their differences aside, work with the new board in the interest of the players and for the development of the game,” the former BCB president echoed.
He added “Our cricket is at its lowest ebb ever, and once we continue in this way, we can never return to those days when Berbice was the top inter-county team in the country”.
Baijnauth went as an observer in last Sunday’s BCB elections, but was forced to leave the venue after there were some issues pertaining to the legitimacy of the notices, as some club members were seeking entry into the venue.

During the exclusive interview Saturday, the former two-term BCB president indicated that he left the venue because in his opinion, nothing good will unfold.
However, he indicated that apart from a few minor hiccups, the elections were held in accordance with the Judge’s ruling.
The BCB’s elections were made possible following a ruling delivered by Justice Navindra Singh on September 8 last, which mandated same for the purpose of electing officer-bearers of the board.

A stable administration of the game in Berbice started way back in 2014, and after Sunday’s elections, the pathway of administrative turmoil has seen additional escalation of tensions for the game.
While president-elect Dhirendranauth Somwaru is of the view that the elections were conducted in a free, fair and transparent environment, the cricket stakeholders are claiming the opposite.
This has led to the stakeholders from the Berbice cricket fraternity filing two separate court orders following last Sunday’s contentious elections.

Information reaching Chronicle Sport indicates that an injunction was filed against the current board, preventing those officials from performing their duties until the application to set aside the elections is heard and determined.
A second application for contempt was filed last Tuesday against Somwaru, Godwyn Allicock and secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board, Anand Sanasie.
The contempt matter was called before Justice Singh on Friday, but was adjourned to this Tuesday.
