Reflects on transformation of the company

WHEN Puran Brothers Disposal Services started its operations in 1987, it relied mainly on a few small tractors, trailers, and lorries. Today, 30 years later, the company is one of Guyana’s leading solid waste contractors.

Apart from waste disposal services, the company offers a variety of other services.

Despite the manner in which it is being treated by the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) at the moment, Puran Brothers Disposal Inc. still extends thanks to the municipality which has been working with the company from day one. One of the directors, Mr. Lakenauth Puran, said the company is also grateful to the government, its dedicated workers, business partners and loyal customers who continue to help make the company a success.

Puran Brothers grew rapidly and expanded to the point where it needed larger waste capacity vehicles. In 1996, Puran Brothers purchased its first set of garbage compactor vehicles.
“Having experienced much success in the solid waste industry, the company, with its keen eye for investment, expanded its operations to other sectors, such as civil construction and ready-mix concrete,” Puran recalls.

Today, apart from waste disposal, the company offers services like ready mix concrete, landfill operations, sewerage management, construction of roads and bridges, road sweeping, toilet and party rentals, tree care services, mobile document shredding, tire shredding and recycling.

Further, in October 2016, when the company was awarded the Haag Bosch Landfill contract, it managed it throughout the stipulated period of one year; during which, Puran recalls, the company transformed what was once a mere waste dump into a fully functioning landfill facility, that is now nationally recognised as one of the main sanitary waste management facilities in the country.

“In retrospect, Puran Brothers Disposal Inc. took over the site from a deplorable state and it can now be compared to international best practices. Our company, over the years, has successfully completed several landfill sites under the I.D.B programme and has an astounding track record in this regard,” Puran said.

The company also partnered with another reputable contractor in a joint agreement that would facilitate greater progress and development.
“Puran Brothers Disposal Inc. is confident that the partnership under the new Haags Bosch contract will provide new initiatives, double resources available to the landfill, accelerate current waste disposal techniques, implement new and better ones, and improve the overall management of the facility,” Puran said.

Puran’s services have expanded to include construction of roads and bridges.
