Correction

THE Guyana Chronicle wishes to correct a statement attributed to Finance Minister Winston Jordan in an article carried in this newspaper on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. Under the caption, “Abuse of LEN funds,” the article erroneously quoted Minister Jordan as saying: “A RECENT audit of the Linden Enterprise Network (LEN) has found massive discrepancies and the chairman and chief executive officer have since been relieved of their duties.”
Minister Jordan did in fact speak about the abuse of funds, but did not mention anything about persons being relieved of their duties, nor did he describe the abuse as “massive discrepancies.” However, this information was obtained subsequently from other sources.
Additionally, in a subsequent follow-up article captioned: “Pour more into LEN,” we mentioned that the agency was given $150M by the government. The Ministry of Finance has since clarified that Government has in fact allocated to LEN, $155M in 2015, $100M in 2016 and $90M in 2017. The Guyana Chronicle regrets these errors and offers its sincere apologies to the minister for the inconvenience this may have caused.
