EMBATTLED former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner is expected to be back in court next month as the battle against facing extradition to the United States continues.

The 74-year-old former CONCACAF boss was dealt a blow in his bid to avoid being sent to the United States, where he faces several charges of corruption, when a Trinidad court rejected an appeal that questioned the legality of the process.
In his response to Warner’s attorneys on Wednesday, Justice James Aboud that there were concerns presented by the Extradition Treaty, but noted Trinidad and Tobago law, which has jurisdiction over the proceedings, afforded several rights and protections to individuals subject to such a request.
“The process of extradition is a judicial process conducted before our country’s judicial officers and both acts contain exhaustive mechanisms for review and appeal,” the judge said.
“Neither the Attorney General nor the magistrate, is legally bound by any of its provisions. Every accused person is entitled to the due-process protections in our legislation.”
In handing down his ruling Aboud granted a 28-day stay to allow Warner’s team the opportunity to file an appeal.
The extradition process against Warner began in 2015 after then Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi signed documents that allowed for the process to begin. It was, however, halted at the last minute after Warner’s challenge. (Sportsmax)
