… Tournament hailed as a success
POLICE Football Club last evening received their spoils for winning the inaugural Corona Invitational Football tournament earlier this month.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the Bransville Hotel, Troy Mendonca, co-director of the tournament organisers Petra contended that the tournament was a success.
“We (Petra) want to congratulate all 12 teams. Pleased with the team turnout and that they were ready to start at 17:00″hrs.
Mendonca continued, “We are very happy with the response of the tournament.”
“You’ve made Top Brandz very proud to be a part of the tournament. Corona is looking forward to continuing to support the football industry in Guyana,” Gabriella Chapman, promotions coordinator of the company, said.
Apart from winners Police pocketing $1M, losing finalists GFC collected $400 000, third-place finishers Western Tigers carted off $200 000 and Northern Rangers took home $100 000.
Darius Frank of Police was adjudged the Best Keeper while the Highest Goalscorer was Andrew Murray with 12 goals and Dwain Jacobs of Police picked up the MVP award.
Police routed hosts Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 4-0 in the final to win the tournament after a strong performance.
