–should be done in a week
THE rehabilitation works on the main access bridge to Bagotville has commenced with the building of a temporary bridge to facilitate the flow of traffic until the main bridge proper is rebuilt.
The temporary bridge, which is being built from greenheart lumber, is expected to be accessible within a week, with workers working around the clock.
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure sought an additional $120M under its bridges programme for the reconstruction and critical rehabilitation works for the Bagotville Bridge on the West Bank of Demerara, which had started to sink.

The rehabilitated bridge would be modified into a steel structure within three months.
The emergency rehabilitation was as a result of the cries of persons in the West Bank of Demerara community and motorists who transit the Bagotville Bridge daily. The bridge’s support beams were damaged due to erosion and heavy rains. Heavy-duty vehicles also added to the deterioration.
