App. developed to connect farmers and customers

SEVERAL information technology students have developed a computer application which can connect mainly farmers and customers in the agriculture sector.
And, one group operating under the name, InnoSys, was adjudged the winning entry in the Ministry of Public Telecommunications CODESPRINT 2017 competition. Second place went to UV3 Media while Intellect Storm copped the third place.

The winners were presented with their prizes at a simple ceremony held on Friday afternoon at the Ministry’s boardroom, Colgrain House on Camp Street. The competition was geared at bringing out the best in computer applications which will bring producers, sellers and buyers of various agriculture products into a single online market place.

Deonauth Mohabar of InnoSys’ explained that the group developed its app with the aim of connecting local stakeholders within the sector, as well as, with international clients. The participants were given a month to develop the applications.
Ministerial Advisor, Lance Hinds noted that 14 groups signed up for the event but only seven participated and completed the exercise.

According to the Ministry of Public Telecommunications, the project must have the ability to generate demand statistics that must be accessible to farmers, generate statistics based on volume per product, average price and total dollar value. The application must also include a payment system that should be fast and easy, along with contain an order –tracking function, among other parameters.
The applications must be able to resolve the age-old marketing problem which has been forcing farmers to see their produce below market value or to discard them.
