ECD bandit nabbed with loot

POLICE arrested a bandit with loot in hand shortly after robbing a Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara couple Sunday night.
Police said in a release that swift action by ranks stationed on the East Coast of Demerara resulted in the apprehension of the suspect who was still in possession of most of the articles stolen from his victims, as well as the firearm he allegedly used to commit the robbery.

According to the release, a couple residing at Burma, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, was on Sunday night, at about 23:00hrs relaxing under a benab at a popular fun park at Mahaicony, when a lone armed bandit pounced and relieved them of their cellular phones, cash and other valuables after which he fled; leaving his victims traumatised.

Shortly afterward, the victims ventured to the nearby Mahaicony Police Station and reported the matter. Based on intelligence gathered, police went to Recess Public Road, Mahaicony, where the suspect, who was later positively identified, was arrested with the stolen items, minus the cash along with an unlicensed 9MM Glock Pistol and nine (9) live matching rounds. The thirty-year old unemployed Calcutta, Mahaicony suspect is being processed for court. A ballistic test is being conducted on the firearm to determine if it was used in the commission of any crime.
