‘Growth is the Great Separator’

I CONCLUDED last month spending time with my family, friends and colleagues and started the new month with some incredible young people. I enjoyed a beautiful sermon last Sunday at the Restoration and Life Church. Pastor Ridley’s message resonated with the theme of where one was in life.

My precious Jaidyn, Shonta and I went to Giftland Mall and it was the first time I experienced looking through those 3D glasses and it was an adventure I enjoyed (the things JJ gets me to do.) When I had to leave the mall to attend my friend’s farewell party, he said “Gramma why do you have to go?” and it was hard leaving him. It was however lovely to join Dr. Desiree and friends for a social evening. We all will certainly miss her.
I started the month with phenomenal young men and women from all walks of life, but who have one thing in common. They all ? ?want to? do more ?to contribute in a positive way ?given the opportunity?.? We spent an evening chatting about where we are now and our anticipated destinations.
What I enjoyed the most is how people sensed it was a safe place and felt comfortable to share intimate life stories. We began studying The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell. Before our evening session was over, persons were recognising the value of these laws if applied. They were identifying the changes they need to make to their personal and professional lives to raise their leadership lids.
I was looking at them with great admiration and remembered the words of one of my mentors, John Maxwell, “Growth is the great separator between those who succeed and those who do not. When I see a person beginning to separate himself or herself from the pack, it’s almost always due to personal growth”- John C. Maxwell.
If we truly desire to grow, it is essential to add value to ourselves. The testimonies are still coming in regarding that session and the anticipation is great for our upcoming sessions. One of the exercises for the next session is teaching. Each person will be teaching one law (you just got the inside scoop).
The next day, I spent some time at The Business School with some younger men and women who were absolutely stunning and bright, but a little shy. I embarked on a Beyond the Runway school tour earlier this year and it was an honour to ?introduce ?Confidence becomes you! ………..:::..Personal practice for prosperous pursuits to the children at the Business School.
It is always a great feeling when not only the children share how the information impacted them tremendously, but the teachers also. The Business School is collaborating with the Sonia Noel Foundation for Creative Arts for Fashion Designing and Etiquette summer courses. If you want to make your summer exciting and are interested, contact The Business School because spaces are limited
?.?We are fortunate to have my friend Steven Cutting who is a professor at FIT and former head designer for House of Dereon interacting virtually for the What is Etiquette and Why is It Important? The foundation of proper etiquette is behaviour that is accepted as gracious and polite in social, professional, and family situations. Having good manners is essential to any civilisation.
? Every day we should aspire to give the world the best version of ourselves and we discussed that today. So many said that from today they would change the way they think and I was elated to hear that, because that is when the change will happen in your life.
Let’s encourage each other to do something life-changing today.
“People who add value to others do so intentionally. I say that because to add value, leaders must give of themselves and that rarely occurs by accident.”-John C. Maxwell
