Two miners, who allegedly chopped and robbed a shopkeeper at his Pamela Landing, Potaro River home were remanded to prison on a joint charge of robbery with violence on Wednesday.

Michael Isaacs, 30, of Paradise, East Coast Demerara and Cologne Toney, 24, known as ‘Country,’ of #53 Village, Corentyne Berbice, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and denied the charge.
It is alleged that on May 21, 2017 at Pamela Landing, Potaro River, they robbed Eric Singh of $85,000 cash, one penny weight raw gold valued $10,000 and at the time of the robbery, they made use of personal violence on Singh.

Police Prosecutor, Arwin Moore told the court that the Virtual Complainant (VC) is the owner of a shop which is at his Pamela Landing, Potaro River home. Moore disclosed that on the day in question, the two accused went to the VC’s home and attacked him with a cutlass while he was asleep and dealt him several chops about his body. The defendants allegedly took the articles mentioned in the charge and made good their escape.
The prosecutor objected to the men being released on bail based on the seriousness of the charge and added that Singh’s attackers are known to him. Toney, who was unrepresented, told the court he lives with the VC and was the one who called for help when the robbery occurred.
The Chief Magistrate ruled in the prosecution’s favour and remanded the duo until July 18, 2017.The matter was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
