–still well within four-month timeline

SEEMS like “The Liliendaal Bridge” on the Railway Embankment Road will not be done in time for Independence celebrations as anticipated in some quarters, due to the inclement weather.

But work on it is moving apace, nevertheless, as evidenced on Monday when the Guyana Chronicle dropped by to see how things were coming along.

When last the Guyana Chronicle reported on this matter, which was back in early March, it quoted the Ministry of Public Infrastructure (MPI) as saying in a release that they were forced to close the bridge to vehicular traffic so as to allow contractors to modernise it.

It also reported that according to the MPI, it would take the contractors, H. Nauth & Sons, four months to get the job done, which puts the deadline to somewhere around June month-end or thereabouts.
The job at reference, estimated to cost around $89M, entails modifying the bridge, using prestressed concrete, thereby making it more durable than the one it was intended to replace.
