A CLERK accused of embezzling almost $5M from his employer was placed before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, when he pleaded not guilty.
Naipaul Beharry, 34, of Diamond Junior Staff compound, East Bank Demerara appeared before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore. Particulars of the charge read that between May 1, 2016 and July 31, 2016,while being the clerk or servant of Ramgobin Mahalall, he fraudulently embezzled $4.9M,taken in account or on behalf of his employer.
Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne did not reveal the police facts and did not object to bail. Beharry did not have legal representation and was released on $250,000 bail.The case was adjourned to June 7.
