THE professional and amateur boxers slated to appear on the Guyana Boxing Board of Control’s (GBBC) `Locked and Loaded’ fight card scheduled for the Giftland Mall, Pattensen, East Coast Demerara, tonight are ready and rearing to get into the `square jungle’to prove their point.

The card,which is being sponsored by Guyana Beverages under its brand Fruita orange juice, Ansa McAl under its Stag Beer brand, New India Assurance Limited and Turbo Energy Drink, will get underway from 19:00hrs at the Giftland Mall’s car park and will have as its feature bout, a flyweight contest between Guyana’s Dexter `De Kid’Marques and Venezuela’s Luis Alberto Requena Zarraga over 10 rounds.
Marques (15-2-0) will be seeking to shake off the ring rust due to 14 months of inactivity,and victory tonight will most likely guarantee him a Commonwealth title fight, which according to GBBC’s president, Peter Abdool, will be held here in Guyana at the new home of professional boxing: the Giftland Mall.

Once he is also successful in that Commonwealth fight, the GBBC has plans for Marques to fight for a world title.So, this makes tonight’s clash with Zarraga very much important.
According to Abdool, Marques is the best flyweight fighter in the Caribbean and despite being absent from the ring for 14 months, he can still handle Zarraga and others better than him (Zarraga).
The co-feature event is a six-round lightweight bout between Imran `The magic’ Khan and Keeve Allicock.

Since turning pro in 2015, Khan has shown that he has what it takes to be a professional fighter, and that is aggression, but for some reason, he hasn’t worked on his stamina.He won his first professional fight by way of a second round knock-out over David Thomas, but lost his other two fights,both to Quincy Gomes after leading on the judges’ scorecard after three rounds.
However, Khan stepped up his preparation for tonight’s fight and is beaming with confidence.
GCCB’s president,Peter Abdool at the signing of contracts for the card a few weeks ago, had said Sunday’s card is a small card in terms of the number of bouts, but the quality of fights should and would be a booster to professional fights and will serve as motivator that can see fight fans and enthusiasts coming out in their numbers to support boxers of their liking and the sport in general.

The other professional fight on tonight’s card brings together Edmund DeClou and Winston Pompey in a six-round super middleweight contest.
There will also be three World Boxing Council (WBC) amateur fights.
The first will be between Rewinne David and Akeela Malazon in a four-round lightweight bout.
Kelon Issacs takes on Euel Agustine in a light welterweight contest and Stephan Gouveia tackles Jackford in a welterweight bout over three rounds.
For the first time ever, Guyanese will be able to witness live Mixed Martial Arts as seven bouts are slated for the night and will include two professional and five amateur bouts.
