POLICE are still to ascertain the identity of a woman who was found dead on a bed in a room at a John Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown hotel.
The body was taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour, pending identification and a post-mortem. No relative has since come forward.
According to police, enquiries disclosed that the woman booked the room at 19:10 hrs on Sunday for 12 hours. About 11:30 hrs on Monday, the manager on checking the rooms observed that her room door was locked from inside. As a result, hotel staff called out to her but got no response. Upon further investigation, hotel staff members peered through a window of the said room where they observed the naked, motionless body of the woman on a bed.
Police said there were no marks of violence on her body.
Persons in the area told this publication that the woman, who appeared to be in her 40s, was a beggar, who is usually seen in the vicinity of the Ashmin Mall, while others related that she is also a part-time commercial sex worker.
One worker at the hotel related that the woman was a regular patron at the hotel and it appeared as if she had overdosed on narcotics.
