PASSENGERS onboard the M.V. Kanawan were in for a frustrated ride on Wednesday afternoon after the vessel lost power and later ran aground along the route from Good Hope to Parika.

Reports are that the vessel departed Good Hope on the Essequibo Coast soon after its scheduled 16: 00hrs departure time and midway along the trip, the vessel’s engine lost power.
According to a passenger, the vessel was drifting along the river and soon after, it ran into some bushes causing passengers to become anxious.

Videos posted on social media showed the vessel between several mangrove branches as passengers walked anxiously around the vessel.
A source at the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) told the Guyana Chronicle that the MV Kanawan was later towed by another ferry to Parika.
In the past, the vessel had experienced engine problems while en-route and at the port at Parika.
