LOWER Corentyne Combined team defeated New Amsterdam/Canje Combined by 24 runs to reach the Berbice final when play in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary Schools Cricket League Combined Phase continued recently at the Albion Sports Complex ground.
Batting first, Lower Corentyne Combined were bowled out for 160, with talented opening batsman Junior Sinclair making a solid 41 He received support from Nathaniel Ragoo and Kelvon Anderson, with 25 and 21 respectively.
Bowling for New Amsterdam/Canje Combined; Alex Algoo grabbed 2-19, Garfield Benjamin had 2-23 and Marvin Singh 2-33.
In reply, New Amsterdam/Canje appeared set to surpass the target, with Leon Swammy stroking a well-composed 46 and Aaron Ramsammy a relaxed 31.
However, after both batsmen were dismissed the remaining batsmen did not apply themselves to the task ahead, and New Amsterdam/Canje Combined eventually folded for 136 in 38.1 overs.
Kelvin Umroa and Renaldo Williams both claimed 3-21 while Nathaniel Ragoo had 2-9.
Lower Corentyne Combined will now face West Berbice Combined in the Berbice final.
