I saw that my friend, David Hinds, was very quick on the draw to respond to my presentation at the “100th Anniversary of the Abolition of Indian Indentureship”, from one “sound bite” of my 30 minute presentation.My focus was anything but on “victimhood”. I placed Indian Indentureship within the broad arc of the development of various methods of exploiting labour, after the European “discovery” of the New World. I outlined the historical irony of indentured White Indentures being succeeded by African slavery – with racism invented to justify it and then back to indentureship once again, but this time with the racist slant.

I think Guyana Times’ piece: “Indo Guyanese must protect their contributions to Guyana – activists” March 5, 2017 provides a wider account that can be checked.
