[NY Daily News] – A 32-year-old East Harlem man was convicted Monday of gunning down Police Officer Randolph Holder, a Guyanese native, in a pathetic bid to evade arrest after an unrelated shooting last year.

It took a Manhattan jury four days to convict Tyrone Howard on charges that included murder, robbery and other charges.

Howard was on the run from a shooting on E. 102nd St. on Oct. 20, 2015 when he encountered Holder and his partner Omar Wallace on the E. 120nd and FDR Drive footbridge, according to prosecutors and trial evidence.

Howard, fearing he’d be arrested, pulled out a .40-caliber Glock semi-automatic pistol and fired striking the rookie officer in the head.

Holder was rushed to the hospital, but could not be saved.

In her opening statement, prosecutor Linda Ford said that Howard knew cops were after him and why.

“He would do anything to avoid being captured,” she said.Howard faces up to life in prison.Howard had a warrant when he was arrested in Holder’s killing, for failing to show up to court after failing to comply with a drug diversion second-chance program he’d been accepted into. He was one of 19 people charged in October 2014 in a crack-cocaine bust in East Harlem. His drug case was still pending at the time of Holder’s death.

Holder, 33 — whose father and grandfather were both cops in Guyana — was laid to rest in Guyana after a funeral at a Queens cathedral.
