3 years jail for Security Guard found guilty of armed robbery

A Security Guard was sentenced to three years imprisonment on Thursday by City Magistrate Renita Singh for the offence of robbery under arms.

Jermaine Jeffery, 23, of Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was convicted of stabbing a man several times with an ice-pick before relieving him of cash and a cellular phones during a robbery. The court heard that on December 15, 2016 at Georgetown, while armed with an ice-pick, Jeffery robbed Yohance Smith of a cell phone, $1,400 cash and other items, property of Smith and another cell phone valued $46,000, which is the property of Keron Humphrey.

According to the prosecution, the defendant confronted the Virtual Complainant (VC) at Irving and Laluni Streets, Queenstown and stabbed him several times before relieving him of the cash and cell phones. Smith raised an alarm and public-spirited citizens ran to his rescue and apprehended Jeffery and handed him over to police.
