AN 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL succumbed at the New Amsterdam Hospital after ingesting carbon tablets commonly used for killing rats.Trashana King, a Grade Six student of St Therese Primary School, allegedly swallowed the poisonous tablets at her East Canje home on Sunday afternoon after she was instructed to accompany her mother to school on Monday.

The instruction had been given by a class teacher, who had witnessed the pre-teen and another pupil fighting in the school yard last Friday. Reports are that they were fighting over a male classmate.

A fellow student said the eleven-year-old had written on the washroom wall that she was fed up with her life ad her grades were poor. At the learning institution yesterday a black flag flew in the wind, just above the main entrance. Class teacher, Ms Karen Bowlin, and her students, whose clothing were adorned with black ribbons hugged each other as they wept openly. The body of the pre-teen is at the Arokium Funeral home awaiting a post mortem report.
