ALEXIS Tappin and her lover, Stephon Barlow, were on Friday committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of Tappin’s reputed husband, Sherwin Johnson.Tappin of Lot 3, Campbell Street, Georgetown, a former cook attached to Demico Restaurant, and 28-year-old Barlow, who dealt a sound thrashing on Tappin’s reputed husband, were jointly charged for the murder of Johnson.
It is alleged that on July 2, at Georgetown, Tappin and Barlow murdered Johnson.
Tappin and Johnson reportedly lived together with their child and on the day in question Johnson returned to their home and found Tappin in bed with Barlow.
It is alleged that Tappin and Barlow then dealt Johnson several lashes about his body after which Tappin armed herself with a crowbar and stabbed Johnson several times.
The duo appeared before City Magistrate Reneta Singh and was committed at the conclusion of the Preliminary Inquiry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The matter was prosecuted by Police Prosecutor Adduni Innis. The duo is to stand trial in the next session of the Demerara High Court Assizes.
