THE ninth Cycle of Continuous Registration commences on Monday, the Guyana Elections Commission has said.Persons can register for the first time, once they will be 14 years old by June 30th, 2017. Citizens can also use the period to make changes to the particulars on their Identification Card and do transfers, GECOM said, adding that persons who are already registered can do photo retakes if the quality of the current ID photo is unacceptable.
“The Guyana Elections Commission advises that persons interested in doing any of the registration transactions must have their original birth certificate or a valid passport. In the case of name change by marriage – original marriage certificate and original birth certificate are required. In the case of name change by deed poll- an original naturalisation certificate issued by the Home Affairs Ministry and original birth certificate/valid passport are required. If you are a citizen by naturalisation, you must bring along your original Naturalisation Certificate or Citizenship Certificate. In other words, no copied documents will be accepted.”
GECOM reminded that baptismal certificates, expired passports, letters from priests, elders, Headmasters, Village Captains/Toshaos and Justices of the Peace or existing ID cards will not be accepted as source documents for registration. All of the commission’s 28 Registration Offices and Sub- Offices across Guyana will be opened for transactions.
Opening hours are:
Monday to Friday 09:00hrs to 13:00hrs and 14:30hrs to 18:00hrs. Saturday10:00hrs to 14:00hrs.
The Offices/Sub Offices will not be open on Sundays and Holidays.
