Man killed –several hurt in nightclub brawl

 

THE police are investigating the murder of a 42-year-old labourer who was stabbed to death at Owen Street, Kitty, Georgetown, early Sunday morning following an altercation outside the Blue Martini nightclub.Dead is Sunil Singh, 42. Another man, Charles Valenzuela, a bartender at the nightclub was also stabbed during the melee.
According to police sources, Singh was stabbed when he attempted to part a fight which began after three male patrons attempted to enter the club after it was officially closed for the night.
Reports are that police ranks visited the club earlier and informed the management of the curfew time.
Shortly after, the three patrons arrived and were told by Valenzuela that the club was closed. An argument ensued and Valenzuela was stabbed by one of the men in his left arm.
During the altercation, Singh intervened and the man who assaulted Valenzuela dealt him a blow to his head.
Singh ran away north into Railway Street, Kitty and was pursued by the suspect who caught up with him and fired several stabs at him.
He was stabbed in the vicinity of his right rib cage and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public-spirited citizens. The man was pronounced dead on arrival.
Several persons have been questioned as the police investigates the incident.
