THE Guyana Beach Football squad wrapped up their preparations over the weekend ahead of leaving for the World Cup championship to be held in the Bahamas.The squad played a series of warm-up matches during their training sessions and will wing out for Bahamas on Thursday
Speaking to Coach of the Guyana team,Abdulla Hamid on Friday,he said the team is about 85 per cent ready for the task of representing Guyana as they had been in training since August last year.
Hamid said he expects to see a competitive Guyana team but warned the players on Friday evening: “If we are going to get injuries, we will go short so we have got to be careful,”he said as the session ended.
He said they have been watching videos on what to expect from the game officials and opposing teams, while they were encamped and having rigorous sessions during the weekends.
He thanked Member of Parliament,Jermaine Figuiera, who was instrumental in getting the venue for their weekend camps, and reported that they were engaged in sessions twice daily from 6.00hrs to 8.00hrs and then from 16.00hrs to 18.00hrs at the Bayrock Community Centre Beach Football facility which was specially made for the playing of beach football.
The thirteen man squad will be reduced to the final twelve before departure.A release from the Guyana Football Federation stated that the players were chosen from the four clubs that participated in the league tournament held last year by the GBFA.
Those clubs were Silver Bullets, Cool Runnings, Attention Family and Kuru Kuru Warriors.
The World Cup championship will run from February 20-28th in the Bahamas, Hamid revealed.
