Cevon’s Waste Management has committed to its promise last Thursday to clean up the liquid waste illegally dumped in Linden at ‘Millies Hide Out’. The company had immediately dispatched a team to Linden that commenced removal of the liquid waste dumped at the junction where Linden starts, as well as the loose garbage.
Management has refuted claims of being responsible for the loose garbage.
The waste company, which has been operating in Linden since 2014, has also cleaned up several other illegal dump sites in Linden out of courtesy.
The company has set up a task force which is on the verge of cleaning up Linden and has already cleared several dumpsites, including those at Kara Kara, Blue Berry Hill, Wismar Housing Scheme, Amelia’s Ward and Retrieve.
Though Cevon’s have done this out of courtesy, they will still have to pay a fine for the illegal dumping since the matter has already been handed over to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Waste illegally dumped in Linden at ‘Millies Hide Out’ on Thursday

Deputy Mayor, Waneka Arindell, told the Guyana Chronicle on Monday that the Council’s Environmental Committee will discuss future plans with Cevon’s Waste Management.
Senior Environmental and Health Officer, Crystal Drakes, said Cevon’s will now have to notify the Council of its garbage collection schedule so that the company could be closely monitored.
Last Thursday, a resident operating in proximity to ‘Mellies Hide Out’ where Cevon’s was dumping illegally, complained to the Council, calling the situation ‘disgusting’.
He also furnished the staff with photos with Cevon’s truck actually dumping the faeces indiscriminately. Linden Mayor Carwyn Holland, and Environmental Committee staff, visited the area which at the time was inundated with garbage.
When the Guyana Chronicle contacted Cevon’s , a senior manager Morse Archer explained that the liquid waste was dumped by an errant driver who did not follow the policies of the Council since the waste was to be transported to Georgetown.
Archer reaffirmed that the company did not dump the loose garbage at the site. This was corroborated by the resident who revealed that he saw several other trucks dumping garbage at the location. In fact at the said time, a Guyana Forestry Commission truck was dumping boxes at the location and when asked by this publication the reason for such an act, the driver responded, “is not me dumping, is them send me to dump”.
The Council will be implementing stricter policies to avoid illegal dumping in the town.
