THE Department of Culture, Youth and Sports (DCYS)has decided to extend the route for the February 23 Mashramani float parade, which will still end at the Durban Park, but will now start off at the corner of Church Street and Avenue of the Republic.
The decision follows calls saying that the previous route, which started at Stabroek Square and proceeded down Brickdam, was too small and would not give companies enough mileage for their investment.

“After further consultations with various stakeholders, the Ministry of Education Department of Culture Youth and Sports took a decision to extend the route for the adult costume bands and revelers,” the DCYS has said in a statement.
After starting off, the floats will proceed south on the western carriageway of the Avenue of the Republic, then turn east into Brickdam, proceeding to the Square of the Revolution and into Durban Park.

However, this route will not apply to the children’s segment of the parade, which will still be commencing from the Stabroek Market Square.
