The Late Jonas Mortimer Codette

WELL-KNOWN criminal defence lawyer, Jonas Mortimer Codette, on Tuesday passed away in the United States of America after a brief period of hospitalisation.Codette, age 80, had been a practicing attorney for almost 44 years, after being admitted to the bar August 17, 1973. He was also on the board of trustees from Georgetown American University as a legal advisor.

Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle, colleague and fellow bar member, Attorney Leslie Sobers explained that he was saddened by the passing of his senior.
“I was a bit taken back since he [Codette] was one of the lawyers I looked up to.” Sobers said.
“Last year I had a conversation with him in his office and he told me about when he was admitted to the bar.”

Coddett was also a businessman since he was into the Timber industry and also consultant at many firms.
