M&CC employees caught with ganja

TWO employees attached to the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday, charged with the illegal possession of narcotics.Garfield Brutus, 40 of Annandale, East Coast Demerara and Ezra Evans, 24 of West Ruimveldt pleaded guilty to having 2 grams of cannabis in their possession on February 1, 2017 at Robb Street.

According to the unrepresented men, they would normally smoke the cannabis while working because “the job stinks.”

The men further explained that the odor from cleaning drains and other jobs would be overbearing, forcing them to smoke the cannabis.

The court was told that on the day in question, police on patrol along Robb Street saw the duo acting in a suspicious manner. They searched the duo and found the illegal substance. The Magistrate reprimanded and discharged the matter against the men.
