Man wounded during fight at rum shop

A man is currently in a critical state at the New Amsterdam Hospital after being stabbed several times to the abdomen by a friend.
Martin Ramsarack, 26, of 323 Number 1, Road Corentyne, Berbice, was rushed to the hospital nursing stab wounds following an argument with his longtime friend Simon Palingam, 25.

Guyana Chronicle understands that on Sunday 29, January, the man left his home to purchase snacks for his children when he stopped at a bar in the village where some friends were imbibing. Shortly after Ramsawack and Palingam got into an argument. It is unclear what prompted the argument.

Rohini Persaud, Wife of Ramsawack, said she was home when someone informed her that, “Martin get bore up and it serious. I left to go see him. I meet he half way on the street. I tell he we going doctor and he tell me no he don’t want go anywhere”.
She told this newspaper that when she enquired from her husband what happened he said, “Simon and he was arguing and he pull out a knife and stab he but because he went in plenty pain and was bleeding a lot he didn’t get to say why. When we reach the hospital they had to do emergency surgery. The doctor tell we he get bore deep in his stomach.”

Meanwhile, a relative of Simon gave a different account of what transpired on Sunday evening at Suresh Jagdeo Liquor Store. “Simon was in the shop talking to the shopkeeper telling he that all the money he work for does done here. When he nah get none he hope Shar Rukh (Shopkeeper) can give he a pint rice. Martin was in there too and ask Simon who he think he talking to and Simon tell he Shar Rukh.”

The relative disclosed that, “Martin pushed Simon and chuck he up and they start fight and Martin pull out a knife.” Afterwards they scuffled and ended up outside the shop since the shopkeeper put them out. The relative went on to say the fight continued outside of the shop during which time Martin was wounded. Police are investigating the matter. Ramsarack, a father of four remains a patient of the New Amsterdam Hospital.
